Performances + Workshops

Musical performances can range from intimate 3-piece ensembles to full 9-piece music and dance experiences, tailored to the needs of each organization or event. Movement classes and workshops are equally flexible, ranging from 45-minute sessions to 2-hour workshops and from one-time experiences to 12-week series.

SANCTUARIO creates immersive musical experiences that can move from intimate concerts to full music-and-dance celebrations. The ensemble brings together extraordinary musicians and performers, including award-winning artists, with past collaborators such as Okai Musik, Ian Jesse, Alexis Marcelo, Etsuko Tajima, Calvin Sexton, David DiTrapani, Gashfor Guillaume, Uriel Monroig, Raquel Joan, Marquerite Hamden, Donnay Edmunds, Alexandra Jean-Joseph, Atlanda Amado and a growing circle of collaborators.

The experience is meant to be felt as much as heard. Audiences are invited into the rhythm, sometimes singing, moving, dancing, and becoming part of the performance itself. After one show, a man shared that the music brought him back to growing up in Curaçao. Others have said they hadn't danced like that in years, or left describing a sense of freedom, joy, release, and connection.

Performances can range from an intimate 3-piece ensemble to a 9-piece music and dance experience, shaped for the space, community, and occasion. Classes and workshops can extend that experience further, ranging from 45-minute sessions to 2-hour workshops and from one-time gatherings to 12-week series.

Workshops

Movement, Environment & Well-Being

Designed to Move

  • Explores how the spaces where we live, work, commute, exercise, pray, learn, and gather shape movement and well-being.

  • Guides participants in creating an Active Space Map that connects personal values, beliefs, habits, and rituals with opportunities for more activity and presence.

  • Uses accessible movement and tools such as foam rollers and massage balls to address tension and support ease in the body.

  • Can be tailored to workplaces, conference rooms, educational settings, and community spaces.

Afro-Rooted Movement & Rhythm

Diaspora Dance

  • Begins from a grounded place, connecting body, earth, and rhythm.

  • Warms the body through breath, joints, spine, and larger muscle groups, gradually expanding range of motion within each person’s ability.

  • Explores movement rooted in Dominican and wider Afro-diasporic traditions.

  • Incorporates live drumming, collective singing, and call-and-response to build connection through shared rhythm.

  • Builds coordination, musicality, and body awareness through repetition and guided movement.

  • Closes with improvisation and self-expression, creating space to shift from receiving and following to expressing and creating.

Yoga + Meditation

Alignment, Breath & Presence

  • Begins with accessible, energizing movement to gently warm the body and build awareness.

  • Gives particular attention to postures that create openness through the chest, heart space, and hips, offering a softer balance to long periods of sitting and everyday tension.

  • Integrates breathwork throughout the practice to support ease, focus, and connection.

  • Closes with a centering meditation, creating a quiet moment to listen inward, reconnect with yourself, and cultivate a greater sense of calm.
